Vukani Community Radio is based in Cala and Komani (Queenstown). It was established in 1993 by Cala University Students Association (CALUSA) and broadcasted for the first time on 09 April 2006. Due to legal requirements CALUSA had to transfer Vukani authority to the community through a community elected structure, the Board. We broadcast in Chris Hani District in the Eastern Cape. Vukani Fm has three frequencies 90.6 - 98.4 - 99.9. Targeting general listeners of all ages. These frequencies enable us to reach: Cala, Elliot, Cacadu, Molteno, Dordrecht, Komani, Ilinge, Sterkstroom, Tarkastad, Cradock, Middelburg, Engcobo, Ugie, Mthatha, Stutterheim, Sterkspruit, King Williams Town, Cathcart, Butterworth, Dutywa, Tsolo, Maclear, James Town and various other towns within the Eastern Cape Province. We broadcast for 24 hours in English and IsiXhosa
We truly believe that radio can be for everyone, no exception. UB FM is a radio made for the community, pure and simple.
Local people steer everything we do, and are involved in every possible role at the station; from technical support & audio production to scheduling & programming and everything in between. The vast majority of presenters are from right here and for many, UB FM is their first real taste of radio broadcasting.
The idea for UB FM was born in 2005, and between 2007 and 2010 we completed 12 short-term (one-month) broadcasts, an eye-opening and amazing experience that improved each time.
