This Cuban shortwave station was officially founded on May 1, 1961, and its experimental broadcasts began on February 24 of that same year. Its creation was motivated by the nascent Cuban Revolution’s need for a radio station with international reach, capable of breaking the information blockade imposed by the United States and countering disinformation campaigns about the Cuban revolutionary process. Founded more than six decades ago, RHC broadcasts in seven languages (Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Creole, Esperanto and Arabic), 24/7, Monday through Sunday, with primarily informative programming.
